Overview

Human Judgement in the Age of AI and Algorithms

Artificial Intelligence and algorithms are rapidly changing how decisions are made at work.

AI systems now help organizations screen job candidates, evaluate employee performance, assess customers, detect risks, approve credit, select suppliers, predict equipment failures and recommend business actions.

They can process enormous quantities of data, identify patterns humans may miss, and make recommendations with remarkable speed, scale and consistency.

But there is an important question: Should we simply trust a recommendation because an AI system produced it?

Not necessarily.

An algorithm may have access to more data than a human decision maker, but it may still miss context, inherit bias from historical data, optimize the wrong objective, give excessive importance to a score, or overlook circumstances that were never captured in the data.

At the same time, humans are not automatically better decision-makers. Our judgement can be affected by emotions, assumptions, fatigue, personal bias, overconfidence and intuition that may sometimes be wrong.

So the real challenge is not Human versus AI. It is learning how to combine algorithmic intelligence with human judgement.

What This Course Is About:

Human Judgement in the Age of AI and Algorithms is a practical, non technical course designed for managers, leaders and professionals who increasingly work with AI-generated recommendations, analytics, scores, dashboards and automated decision systems.

Through realistic corporate situations, you will learn how to determine when to trust AI, when to question it, and when human judgement must take the lead.

You will explore issues such as AI and algorithmic bias, misleading scores, incomplete data, automation bias, algorithm aversion, the limits of algorithmic objectivity, efficiency versus humanity, intuition, contextual judgement and responsible decision making.

Most importantly, this course moves beyond identifying the problems and gives you practical ways to deal with them.

Practical, Workplace Focused Learning:

This is not a theoretical discussion about Artificial Intelligence.

Throughout the course, we use practical situations from recruitment, HR, banking, sales, procurement, customer service, operations, manufacturing, project management and leadership to examine what happens when machine recommendations meet real world circumstances.

This Is Not a Course Against AI. The objective of this course is not to distrust Artificial Intelligence. Nor is it to encourage humans to overrule algorithms simply because they disagree with them. AI and algorithms can be extraordinarily powerful decision support tools. The objective is to develop calibrated trust, the ability to use AI confidently while remaining intellectually engaged with the decision.

The central message of the course is simple:

AI can analyse. AI can predict. AI can recommend.
But humans must still understand, question, judge and take responsibility.

About Your Instructor:

The course is presented by Col (Dr) Shabbar Shahid, an Army veteran, management educator and Udemy instructor with more than four decades of professional, leadership and teaching experience.

His multidisciplinary background includes engineering, management, finance and leadership, supported by an M Tech, MBA in Finance and PhD in Management. After a long career involving leadership, decision making, training and mentoring, he now focuses on translating complex management concepts into simple, practical and workplace relevant learning.

His teaching philosophy emphasizes an important principle that also runs throughout this course:

Technology should strengthen human capability, not eliminate the need for human thought.

Ready to Become a Better Decision Maker in an AI-Driven Workplace?

AI will increasingly influence the decisions we make. The professional advantage will therefore not belong merely to those who know how to use AI tools. It will belong to those who know when to trust them, when to question them, what they may be missing and when human judgement must take the lead.

If you want to become a more thoughtful, responsible and confident decision maker in the age of AI and algorithms, join me in this course and let us begin.
